Jermain Defoe exclusive: I want Rangers stay

Jermain Defoe, by his own admission, absolutely loves goals. That is why he wants to remain in Rangers, why he would like to play into his 40s, and also why Steven Gerrard has heard never to bother inquiring if he wants a rest…
On the eve of his 37th birthday, Defoe did what hes been performing for almost two years. He for the first time in 10 weeks shipped high in the Scottish Premiership before rivals Celtic then, also even watched a hat-trick.
It took Defoe into 12 goals this season, and prompted fans to break.
I remember the first time I scored for Rangers, the fans began singing the song and I spoke to my mum later. She was just likewow, Defoe tells Sky Sports News.
Getting to understand the person is well worthwhile. Defoe was awarded an OBE in November because of his commitment and contribution to football and charity. The honor was also dedicated by him this past year, to his buddy Bradley Lowery, that passed out from a rare type of cancer.
Manager Steven Gerrard understands all about Defoe. The pair are often in discussion on a new contract for the striker, with Defoes latest deal set to expire next summer.
Hes said to me he is delighted with how I am playing not just that, together with how I am around the area with all the younger lads, helping everybody, states Defoe. It was fine for him to mention that.
There is little doubt in Defoes mind. His loved ones appreciate life in Glasgow. I need to stay, he says. it is a special football club – you feel it.
However, Defoe is looking beyond next year. Asked if he can extend his career to his 40s, Defoe states:The way I feel now, readily.
I do what [to prepare matches], which is simple for me. My retrieval, training, understanding how to manage myself. I really do. I believe its showing in my performances
He has not found working under a former team-mate in Gerrard difficult defoes capacity to man-manage himself is.
If youre a manager you have to develop into a bit different, youre the manager, states Defoe. But there is times when he doesnt say anything to me because he understands me. There is times when he says to medo you really want a daya day to remain in and break – because he knows Ill sayno that I wish to play! . He understands me. He is my ex-team-mate and that he knows I enjoy scoring goals
Four wins out of four with 17 goals just one surrendered to Celtic at the first Old Firm derby of the year because their defeat and scored, Rangers wont have wanted the global break to disrupt their momentum. Gerrard has said before faltering final season later Rangers spent time on 16, its too early for title talk, and Defoe has cautioned that his team-mates to steer clear.
You do not want to brag about being high in the league, theres still a long way to go, he states. We must honor our neighbours, everyone in the league and continue what were doing.
When you are lifting the trophy in the conclusion then you can do what you want and properly celebrate.
