Belgian chocolatier BbyB recently opened its first overseas shop in the Ginza district of Tokyo. The chocolates come in over 20 distinct flavours, including star anise and honey, raspberry and roses, crème brûlée, and passion fruit and basil, and are wrapped in a sliding box – designed to create an element of surprise with each bite.
This same concept was used by Japanese designer Nendo for the shop’s design. He created a floating, transparent ‘chest of drawers’ at the centre of the store to display the chocolates. The front of the store is conceived as an entirely white space, while the café at the rear is entirely black. www.bbyb.be
